Volunteering at Teen'Scape
Thank you for your interest in volunteering with Teen'Scape at Los Angeles Public Library's Central Library.  Teen'Scape's volunteer program is for young people ages 12-19 who are in middle school, high school, or equivalent homeschool grades. The Los Angeles Public Library does not accept court-mandated volunteers.

Once volunteers have registered with signed documents and attended the mandatory orientation, they can earn hours at their own pace on activities and dates they choose. There is a 20-hour minimum service requirement; the Teen'Scape volunteer coordinator will not sign off on any statement of hours before a volunteer has served 20 hours and attended Teen Council.

Virtual Volunteering
Since the pandemic, most Teen'Scape volunteer opportunities have been online.  Volunteers can earn volunteer hours for attending and participating in online programs, and helping with programs when needed. Volunteers can also earn volunteer hours by creating content for the Library's Teen Web. We love book reviews of Young Adult fiction, nonfiction, graphic novels, and manga. Volunteers can also write blog posts about their experiences or issues that matter to them.

Most of our online programs start at 4:30 in the afternoon on weekdays, though we do have limited in-person opportunities to volunteer on Saturdays and during the week for as-needed tasks.

In-Person Volunteering
Teen'Scape is gradually returning to in-person volunteering. Currently, our in-person opportunities are chores here at Teen'Scape, assisting at OctaviaLab on some Saturdays, and assisting with the Central Library Used Book Sale on the 3rd Saturday of the month.

How to Get Started
  • Open the Teen'Scape Volunteer Interest Form online.
  • Download and complete the Volunteer Intake Form and Volunteer Waiver and Photo Release Form (also available for download from the form directly) and get them signed by a parent or guardian.
  • If you do not already have a preferred online PDF filler & document signing app, here are a couple of free options.
    • Dochub.com connects to a Gmail account and allows you to sign 5 documents a month.
    • Adobe Fill and Sign a PDF allows you to sign PDFs for free and connects with a Gmail account.
  • Attach the completed Intake PDFs to the online Teen'Scape Volunteer Interest Form and submit the completed form.
  • The next step is to attend a mandatory 1-hour Online Volunteer Orientation. The link to the Orientation is below.
